Carbazole, also known as 9-azafluorene or iminodiphenylene, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C12H9N. It is primarily used in the manufacture of dyes, chemical reagents, explosives, pesticides, lubricants, and rubber antioxidants. Its derivatives are also used in high-performance dyes, optoelectronic displays, perovskite batteries, pharmaceuticals, and organic liquid hydrogen storage carriers.
On October 27, 2017, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization published a preliminary list of carcinogens, classifying carbazole as a Group 2B carcinogen.
Carbazole is mainly used in the manufacture of dyes, chemical reagents, explosives, pesticides, lubricants, and rubber antioxidants. Furthermore, carbazole and its derivatives, alkylcarbazoles, are important fine chemicals widely used in high-performance dyes, optoelectronic displays, perovskite batteries, and pharmaceuticals. In the hydrogen energy industry, carbazole, as an organic liquid hydrogen storage carrier, provides key material support for the commercialization of hydrogen storage and transportation technologies through large-scale production.
